CHINESE HOSPITALS INTRODUCE HANDS-FREE AUTOMATIC HAND EXTRACTOR FOR DONORS

Look ma, no hands! Sperm donation just got that much easier now that researchers at Zhengzhou Central Hospital in China have created a machine that…well, sucks the donor off, pretty much.

The machine boasts a screen for visual stimulation (read: porn) while the pink massager strokes the man’s donor pipe to ultimate pleasure. All he has to do is stand back and enjoy the hands-free masturbation.

Director of the Urology Department at the hospital Zhu Guoxin said the machine can be used by men who cannot donate sperm in the old-fashioned way.

Adding that this machine is only recommended for patients who’ve had difficulty retrieving sperm. Users must use a condom, but lubricant and chemicals on condoms will affect the accuracy of the test results.

If it weren’t for the $2,800 price tag, pubescent boys everywhere would be begging Santa Claus to drop one of these babies off at their house this Christmas.

This love machine would sell out faster than the iPhone 5 if it was under $500 bucks.

Maybe the researchers can work on a more compact version for the mass market.

Unfortunately, mens’ forearms will probably get a lot smaller as a result of the reduction in activity.

DOCTORS PERFORM WORLD’S FIRST UTERUS TRANSPLANT BETWEEN A MOTHER AND HER DAUGHTER.

women in their thirties received their mother’s uterus

-They Two will need to wait for one year before undergoing IVF
-If procedure works it will be the first time a mother and daughter will have grown in the same womb
-Women stop producing eggs around the age of 50 but their wombs can remain viable past 60
Doctors have carried out the world’s first womb transplants between a mother and daughter.
Within the past few days, two women have received organs donated by their mothers in the hope they will be able to have children.
The recipients, whose names have not yet been revealed, are aged between 32 and 37, and are from Sweden.
The operations each lasted seven hours and were carried out at the weekend by a team of ten surgeons from the University of Gothenburg.
One of the women had been born without a womb while the other had recently had the organ removed following surgery for cervical cancer.
Both were still able to release eggs from their ovaries and underwent IVF before the operation to produce embryos. These have been frozen and doctors intend to implant them into the women’s new wombs next year in the hope they will become pregnant.
The women were ‘tired’ following  the surgery but were recovering well, the Swedish doctors said.
However, the team will not hail the operations a ‘complete success’ until the women have given birth to healthy babies. Even though the mothers are in their 50s and 60s, the doctors believe they will be healthy enough to bear children.

CHOLERA OUTBREAK IN SIERRA LEONE

As of 16 September 2012, a cumulative total of 18,508 cases including 271 deaths (with a case fatality ratio of 1.5%) have been reported in the ongoing cholera outbreak in Sierra Leone since the beginning of the year.
The highest numbers of cases are reported from the Western area of the country where the capital city of Freetown is located.
The Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MOHS) is closely working with partners at national and international levels to step up response to the cholera outbreak. The ongoing activities at the field level include case management; communication and social mobilization; water, sanitation and hygiene promotion; surveillance and data management.
Emphasis is being placed on early detection of cases and timely provision of treatment at the district levels in order to reduce deaths. Cholera cases are managed in cholera treatment units (CTUs) and where there are no established CTUs, emphasis is placed on designating specific areas within the health facilities for isolation purposes.
At the national level, the Cholera command and Control Centre (C4) continues to provide technical advice, coordinate and monitor the outbreak. The C4 was established to implement activities related to the Cholera Preparedness and Response Operation Plan (CPROP) in order to bring the epidemic under control as soon as possible. The C4 will also provide information to guide the decision-making of the national task force.
WHO and partners are supporting the government in the response to the outbreak. Through the Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN), experienced case management and laboratory experts from the International Center for Diarrheal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR, B) are deployed to build capacity among health-care workers and laboratory technicians in case management and laboratory diagnosis.
With respect to this event, WHO does not recommend that any travel or trade restrictions be applied to Sierra Leone.

RESEARCH SHOWS WORK STRESS RAISES HEART RISK.

Having a highly demanding job, but little control over it, could be a deadly combination.
UK researchers analysed 13 existing European studies covering nearly 200,000 people and found “job strain” was linked to a 23% increased risk of heart attacks and deaths from coronary heart disease.
Lancet medical journal report said risk to the heart was much smaller than for smoking or not exercising.
The British Heart Foundation said how people reacted to work stress was key.
Job strain is a type of stress.
The research team at University College London said working in any profession could lead to strain, but it was more common in lower skilled workers.
Doctors who have a lot of decision-making in their jobs would be less likely to have job strain than someone working on a busy factory production line.

MICHELLE OBAMA’S TOP 6 HEALTH TIPS

What’s not to love about First Lady Michelle Obama? She’s a well-educated professional, she’s a devoted mother, she’s the greatest supporter and defender of her husband, President Barack Obama, and she strives every day to be healthy and happy woman.

What are some of the top everyday things she does to help maintain a healthy life?

1. Michelle works out.
She wakes up around 4:30am every day to work out before her children wake up, doing combinations of cardio and strength moves. If she’s on the road, she tries to bring a jump rope with her, or do a pre-planned 30-minute workout involving jumping jacks and sit-ups. She also varies her workouts, and includes moves to maintain her flexibility, such as Pilates and yoga.

2. Michelle takes great care of her skin.
Her skin care routine is pretty basic: face cleanser and a moisturizer with SPF. She also treats herself to the occasional facial.

3. Michelle eats right, but eats fries, too.
She believes that eating right is about establishing healthy boundaries, and that she couldn’t be happy if she had to cut out the foods she loved. She says that she loves fries, a good burger and pie, and enjoys these things in moderation, while including plenty of healthy food choices as well.

4. Michelle understands her value.
She makes sure to put “me” on her priority list, and makes choices that make her happy, saying that “Even my husband is happier when I’m happy, and says that personal happiness is connected to everything.” She also stresses that this is an important lesson she wants her own daughters to learn.

5. Michelle deals with problems constructively.
She believes in immediately dealing with the things that bother her instead of internalizing them. She talks to her network of friends and family to help her resolve issues before they become serious problems.

6. Michelle dresses for her own happiness.
Yes, she’s a fashion icon, but says that she actually picks clothes that make her feel good, and uses her own internal guide. She feels that women should always do this, especially since it’s impossible to make everyone 100% happy.

World Suicide Prevention Day

10 September 2012

World Suicide Prevention Day on 10 September promotes worldwide commitment and action to prevent suicides. On average, almost 3000 people commit suicide daily. For every person who completes a suicide, 20 or more may attempt to end their lives.

The sponsoring International Association for Suicide Prevention, the co-sponsor WHO and other partners advocate for the prevention of suicidal behaviour, provision of adequate treatment and follow-up care for people who attempted suicide, as well as responsible reporting of suicides in the media.

At the global level, awareness needs to be raised that suicide is a major preventable cause of premature death. Governments need to develop policy frameworks for national suicide prevention strategies.

At the local level, policy statements and research outcomes need to be translated into prevention programmes and activities in communities
